Overview

Components are concepts and applications to be applied within the PRINCE2 processes. They border on being techniques.

The PRINCE2 manual is divided up into chapters, 8 of which outline the PRINCE2 "processes":

• SU Starting up a Project
• IP Initiating a Project
• DP Directing a Project
• CS Controlling a Stage
• MP Managing Product Delivery
• SB Managing Stage Boundaries
• CP Closing a Project
• PL Planning.

3 chapters which outline "techniques":

• Product Based Planning
• Change Control Technique
• Quality Review Technique.

8 chapters that outline the PRINCE2 Components:

• Business Case
• Organisation (i.e. Project Management Team and PRINCE2 Roles)
• Plans (i.e. Project Plan, Team Plan, Project Quality Plan, Configuration Management Plan, Communications Plan and Exception Plan)
• Controls (i.e. Project Controls)
• Management of Risk
• Quality in a Project Environment (i.e. Quality Review)
• Configuration Management
• Change Control (i.e. Change Control Technique).

Tips

For those familiar with the 2001 manual the new 2002 version now incorporates the Business Plan as a component and has merged stages with controls.

Notes

• PRINCE2 consists of Components which are applied within the appropriate activities (processes)
• for those with the 2001 and 2002 book "Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2" components are represented in the 3D pie chart.
