Overview

The Configuration Item Record is part of Product Based Planning. It is created by the Configuration Librarian in PL2 Defining and Analysing Products.

The format and details of which products require a Configuration Item Record is outlined in the Configuration Management Plan. The Configuration Item Record is a summary of a product's status, that is the stage of quality, the version number, who is responsible for the product and its cross-references to any Project Issues that have arisen.

Its information is gathered from:

The Configuration Item Record should contain the following information:

  • Unique identifier (project and product identifier, type of product, version number)
  • Product Description
  • Owner of the product
  • Relevant dates (submission, delivery and allocation)
  • Location of product
  • Current status of product (in use, being worked on, waiting quality review etc.)
  • Cross references to project issues/correspondence/contracts.
